GiftTree, based in Vancouver, WA and founded in 1977, is an online retailer of premium gift baskets, wine gift baskets, fruit, and flowers. GiftTree sells its products directly to consumers online at www.GiftTree.com and via its catalogs.

Challenge

GiftTree lacked real-time visibility into its online store’s performance metrics and was manually pulling data from Google Analytics and Shopify to answer routine questions and manage its business. Looking for help to design and automate a comprehensive reporting package for its website, GiftTree turned to SabinoDB’s team of e-commerce and data experts.

Solution

SabinoDB successfully designed and implemented a fully automated custom reporting suite to display and track all of GiftTree’s website KPIs in one simple report. Key initiatives included:

  • Worked with GiftTree to identify the web metrics to track and designed a custom reporting dashboard featuring:

    • Most relevant website KPIs including, sessions, revenue, orders, conversions, and average order value;

    • Segmentation of KPIs by traffic channel, ad campaign, user device type, and new vs returning visitors;

    • KPI trends over time including, daily, weekly, monthly, YTD, and year-over-year comparisons; and

    • Snapshot of top product sales, website search terms, and landing and exit page activity.

  • Built reporting dashboard in Google Sheets for easy sharing and collaboration. Used Google Analytics API and Google Apps Script to automatically pull necessary data in real-time, and reviewed Google channel grouping definitions to ensure accuracy.

  • Set up automated company-wide reporting distribution and conducted training sessions for key stakeholders.

Results

SabinoDB was able to design and implement an automated custom reporting dashboard in less than 3 weeks. The new reporting suite gave GiftTree real-time visibility into the website KPIs that matter. With accurate and timely reporting at its fingertips, GiftTree was able to spend more time making decisions rather than reporting.
